Design Projects

This page shows some sample independent and collaborative instructional/UX design projects that I was involved using tools like Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, Vyond, Adobe Audition, Figma, etc. The projects include required work for internship and scholarship, but most projects were something I volunteered because of the societal significance, such as improving designers awareness in accessibility and helping adults develop interview skills. I practiced and strengthened my instructional design and UX design skills in these projects and I am planning to be involved in more voluntary and work-related design projects.

1. Instructional Design Internship Projects

I worked as an instructional design intern for SAP during the summer of 2019. I worked beside the Global Enablement team on larger projects, learned about enablement and the content needs of a global organization for on-boarding and on-going initiatives, rebranded and updated e-learning courses in aligning with updated business needs, and assisted the content strategy team with rebranding and update needs using a variety of design tools. Below is a video I made using Vyond to showcase two sample projects I worked on during the internship.

2. Purdue Repository for Online Teaching and Learning

PoRTAL is a go-to resource for these who want to teach online with a variety of topics. It is a collaborative project among Purdue LDT program, Purdue Online, Purdue Center for Instructional Excellence, Purdue Libraries, and Purdue Teaching and Learning Technologies. I served as a project manager and designer on this team. Below is one model module I designed for using Articulate Storyline. The module is still under construction.

3. Designing for Accessibility

Designing for Accessibility is a design project sponsored by Teach Access to increase the awareness of accessibility among instructional designers. As part of a design team, we initiated the project together by writing grant application collaboratively. We started the module design process once we received the grant. The project was split into three modules while each designer was in charge of the design of a module through a systematic design process. I was the one working on module 2 in introducing what are accessibility issues using real-world online courses. I used Articulate Storyline and Camtasia to make this module.

4. MOOC: "Desertification: Problems and Solutions"

I volunteered to participate in the design of the MOOC for Gifted Education at Purdue University. I designed the course along with the associate director of Gifted Education. The course was published on FutureLearn.

5. ISPI Case Competition: "Redesigning learning and development for MNBC"

I formed a team by selecting team members strategically in participating in the ISPI University Case Study Competition. The problem presented to us was the outdated Learning & Development organization for Metro National Banking Corporation. Our task was to redesign L&D organization to meet the company needs. My team met with the client on a weekly basis over a 2-month period of time to find a solution. Below is the slideshow my team used in the competition. My team got second place in the competition.

6. Educational Software Prototype: Autism Interpersonal Design and Exploration

In an educational software design class, I partnered up with a graphic designer in developing a software prototype to help autism adults develop interview skills. We narrowed down our scope through two weeks' literature search & reading, rounds of discussions and ideations, and conversations with our client. We completed a high-fidelity prototype after a 16-week analysis, ideation, design, usability testing, and iterative design. My partner worked on the graphic design of the sketches while I made a high-fidelity functional prototype using Articulate Storyline.

7. UX design projects

I selected UX courses and worked on multiple projects on different teams in strengthening my knowledge and skills in UX research and design, including interview, contextual inquiry, developing persona, journey mapping, co-design, affinity diagram, prototyping such as sketches, wireframes, and experience prototyping, usability testing, cognitive walkthrough, etc.

8. Musical Channel

I developed a Chinese music channel with a partner. We brainstormed ideas, wrote scripts, recorded and edited the audio using Adobe audition. Each week we had over 300 audiences. Below is a sample audio.
